Dortmund - Union Viertel and the Dortmunder U building

in the Museum Ostwall - Dortmund - Germany

The Dortmunder U [] is a 70-meter-high building erected in 1926/27 that was originally built by the Dortmunder Union Brewery as a storage and fermentation tower. In 1994, the brewery's operations were relocated and the landmarked high-rise building was the only one to remain. In 2007, the city acquired the site and converted the tower into a museum center.

Today, the building houses various museums and also a branch of the university. At the top, there is an outdoor terrace as well, from which you can get a nice view of the city. Apart from special exhibitions, they can be visited free of charge.

From my point of view, this is especially worthwhile for the Museum Ostwall []. The arrangement of the individual exhibits was not always clear to me, but you find objects here that you do not see so often.

In addition to the Dortmunder U, it is also worthwhile to stroll through the Union neighborhood, which is located to the south. Architecturally, there is not much interesting, but many attractive graffiti.
