BMW Welt Munich

BMW Welt - Munich - Germany

A couple of years ago BMW followed the example of Mercedes [] and Porsche [] and built a museum next to their headquarter in Munich. But they didn't stop there. They added a separate building used as a kind of showroom and delivery center. While the museum asks for an entrance fee, visiting the BMW Welt [] (= BMW World, but they really use the German name on their English website) is free of charge.

But my key interest wasn't the exhibition but the building itself. I used the underground parking (that is not for free btw) and directly went to the main entrance. I walked around the complex first, to see if the back of the building is offering some interesting views as well, but I found nothing special here. So I continued to the front where I took all the pictures you see in this post. Don't miss going up to the bridge that leads to the BMW building and the museum.

Even the architecture of the building is interesting by itself, it's getting much more interesting if it's lit in the evening. I'm not sure how they handle it in summer times, but if you want to park in the underground parking, sunset might be too late. So I would recommend going in wintertime or at least late autumn. I even managed to include a full moon in one of the pictures.
