Tai Kwun, Hong Kong

Tai Kwun Contemporary - Hong Kong - China

First published in 2020

Different from Xiqu Centre, Tai Kwun Hong Kong is a pretty old structure, but it was completely renovated and turned into a cultural and shopping destination. As such it opened in 2018 only.

Originally Tai Kwun was the central Police Station of Hong Kong. The oldest structure was built in 1864, but different other buildings have been added and reconstructed over the years. In the end, it was used as local police headquarters until the 2000s.
Today you can visit different buildings like the prison or the courtroom.

Aside from the old buildings, you can find the newly built Tai Kwun Contemporary Museum. This modern concrete based building is a sharp contrast to the old houses. But if you are interested in modern architecture it's absolutely worth taking a look.
This is even more true as the museum hosts 6-8 exhibitions a year and the best is: You can visit for free.
